Mechanical Marie, based on Aki Akimoto’s manga Kikaijikake no Marie, has officially been greenlit for an anime adaptation. With a Fall 2025 release window and a teaser trailer already revealed. This steampunk-meets-romance tale is shaping up to be one of the most distinctive anime of the year.
🧷 Plot Summary: Human or Machine?
Marie, a retired martial artist with nerves of steel and a poker face to match, finds herself in a rather unusual job: pretending to be a robot maid. Her new employer, Arthur, is the heir to a powerful conglomerate—and he absolutely loathes humans.
To stay close and keep her job (and her life), Marie must convincingly act like an emotionless android. But there’s a catch—Arthur is oddly affectionate toward machines. Soon begins doting on Marie in ways she never expected. With her cover constantly at risk and assassins lurking around every corner, Marie’s mission becomes a high-stakes game of secrecy, survival, and… maybe even romance?
🎬 Staff & Studio
The anime is being co-produced by Studio Zero-G and Studio Lieber, with direction by anime veteran Junji Nishimura (The Fire Hunter, Bakuon!!).
Series composition is in the hands of Mariko Kunisawa (Bartender: Glass of God, Berserk of Gluttony), while Yoko Kikuchi (Twilight Out of Focus, The Demon Prince of Momochi House) will handle character designs.
On the music side, fans can expect a dynamic soundtrack from Yasuharu Takanashi (Fairy Tail) and Johannes Nilsson (Gushing Over Magical Girls).
