📚 Source Material Spotlight: Tougen Anki
Tougen Anki is based on the dark fantasy manga by Yura Urushibara, serialized in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shōnen Champion since June 2020. The story quickly gained attention for its gritty take on classic Japanese folklore, especially the legendary conflict between the Oni and Momotaro clans.
In the manga, Urushibara blends intense action, generational conflict, and supernatural abilities rooted in myth. It follows the life of Shiki Ichinose—a teenager whose world shatters when he discovers he carries Oni blood, marking him as an enemy of the powerful Momotaro Agency.
Known for its stylish art, morally grey characters, and brutal fight sequences, Tougen Anki has sold over 1.5 million copies and even inspired two stage plays before getting the anime green light. The English version, titled Tougen Anki: Legend of the Cursed Blood, is licensed by Yen Press, with the third volume set to release in May 2025.
